Jet & Jade:
Travel Powder Compact
Traditional powder packaging neglects the ability to travel with your compact. Jet & Jade is a powder compact system that provides users the ability to take their powder on the go while also improving the user experience and reducing product loss.
How Do You Use Setting Powder?
Setting powder is used during makeup application and for touchups throughout the day. To use it:
1. Separate parts (lid, body, puff not included)
2. Tap powder into the lid
3. Use the puff to pick up and apply powder
4. Tap powder from lid back to the body
The Problem
Frustrated by my own powder compact and its inability to travel for touchups, I started documenting the main issues.
1. There was no space for my powder puff which meant it collected dirt as it just went straight into my bag.
2. There was nothing to stop powder from spilling inside the container as it moved which made touchups messy.
3. Constantly having to switch powder from the lid back to the body was messy and product was getting lost in the transfer.
4. The sharp edges of the interior and the threading accumulated powder and formed hard packed clusters.
Ideation
I started by finding potential solutions for the functional problems I found. Then, I ideated on how I could add these features while also creating a simplistic but interesting form.
I wanted to create a cohesive singular form that could be broken down into equally beautiful forms for travel purposes.

Potential Solutions
Introducing Jet & Jade
Jet & Jade is a modular powder system that breaks down into two separate bodies.
A takeaway container for powder transfers and travel usage.
A main container to hold powder safely at home.
The Breakdown
Jet & Jade has 5 separate parts that all nest together. Here are each of their roles:

1. Travel lid:
the travel lid connects to the main lid. It can slide off and connect to the travel compartment to form the travel version.
2. Main lid:
the main lid hosts the travel lid and screws onto the main body, connecting the system.
3. Powder puff:
the powder puff is used for powder application and to block any spillage from the powder inside the travel compartment.
4. Travel compartment:
the travel compartment is the designated space to pour powder from the main body. Because it can stay upright inside, powder can stay here until it is used up. It is also pressure fit inside to block any spillage from the main body’s holes.
5. Main body:
the main body holds the bulk of the powder. This is also the only part that needs to be replaced when the powder runs out.
